Tēna tatau Katoa
Pippy and I attended a Puanga/Matariki workshop in Ohakune organised by REAP. We heard the story of the Kahui Maunga, shared ideas about how we are going to celebrate Puanga with our tamariki and made stars out of flax. We were taught karakia and waiata. This evenng brought together other teachers from around our area. The evening ended with a beautiful kai. We will be sharing what we learnt at our staff hui next week.
Puanga is our first star we see in the Aotea rohe. It is the beginning of the Maori New Year and a time of celebration. Everyone is more than welcome to attend the Puanga celebration on Koro Ruapehu on Monday 8th June. Buses leave Raetihi at 4.45am and Ohakune at 5pm. See this weeks Ruapehu Bulletin for more details.
We are going to celebrate Puanga/Matariki with our tamariki on Thursday 18th June with a shared kai. We'll remind you all closer to the time. Ka kite.
